Heart of Treaty 6 Reconciliation
Heart of Treaty 6 Reconciliation is a group of individuals, community-based organizations, governments, and businesses from Onion Lake Cree Nation, Lloydminster, Frog Lake First Nation, and Poundmaker Cree Nation who have come together, discussing Reconciliation and what the Calls to Action can look like in the North West of Saskatchewan.
The group has been meeting regularly since December 2016 and committing to work together on two priorities:
1. Education and awareness:
• About the past and its effect on the present and the future
• About the strength and resilience of our cultures in the region
2. Healing the effects of Colonization:
• Maintaining strong cultural identities
• Nourishing hope in our communities, families, and ourselves;
The group has together committed to principles and objectives guiding their work. We have also agreed to evaluate their Reconciliation activities against the Reconciliation Saskatchewan vision.
We invite others to participate in Reconciliation activities as a means of learning about reconciliation and expanding the network of people committing to their own Call to Action. See what is happening in your area. Already Heart of Treaty 6 Reconciliation has seen the raising of the Treaty 6 and Metis Homeland flags.
The mandate of the Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC for short) is to facilitate a bilateral process to discuss treaty and jurisdictional issues between Saskatchewan First Nations and the government of Canada, with the government of Saskatchewan present as an observer.
